Trial by literary ordeal – or – from zero to a hundred in just over two days!
Requirements: an idea for a book, an early draft of your first two pages, a willingness to listen and learn, and a love of good, old-fashioned hard work.
Join writing and communications trainer, Simon Clews for one of the hardest, yet potentially most rewarding weekends of your writing life. Come along with an idea for a book you’d like to write and walk away just over forty-eight hours later with a broad knowledge of what it takes to write that book and a plan for how you’re going to achieve that aim. Learn about the nuances of the writing and editing processes and how to pitch your book to a commercial publisher. Undertake personal analysis and determine your strengths and weaknesses and how to work with them and unlock the potential of you as the author heavily and intimately involved in the selling of your book.
Friday night: social event to get to know your fellow literary rookies, aims and activities for the weekend and the ever present threat of being told to “drop and give me fifty … words, that is!”
Saturday: the art – writing, editing, character development, dialogue, location, and the craft – the writing process, research, plotting, story development, motivation, organisation and dealing with the enemy – writer’s block.
Sunday: developing a platform, getting to know your audience, selling your writing, pitching to publishers and working ‘the system’ to take advantage of all opportunities and making your own luck. Writer’s SWOT analysis, developing a literary action plan and the passing out parade.
